Communism Vs Democracy :: Essays Papers

Communism Vs DemocracyThe onetime(a) Man and The Sea EssayErnest Hemingway, in The Old Man and The Sea, wrote a book about a man with little wealth and little friends, but this man has a very high goal, which he wants to accomplish nevertheless if it means he might die in the process. In this story Ernest Hemingway describes struggles amidst conduct and death. Those struggles still exist in life today, and mess from all over the world try to face them day in and day out. Struggles and obstacles in life are different for everyone. Some subdue them, some fail, but most at least try and succeed in getting the one thing they really want, their goal in life.capital of Chile is the name of that man which Ernest Hemingway describes in the story. capital of Chile is an old fisherman, who has nothing left except his strength and a boat with a harpoon and fishing wire. The obstacles that Santiago faces are unlike any that most people in this world are facing now. His obstacles are so cl ose to death that it is unimaginable to an cut-and-dry psyche. Santiago faces them with no ease, but he faces them for no fame or glory. He faces them because of his pride. A person cannot have pride for accomplishing nothing in life. A person has pride when they achieve something so great in their life that you are proud of your own accomplishment, and that something is a persons goal. Santiagos goal is to catch The fish of his life. That fish is his life and he will do anything to accomplish it. A person has to achieve his goal in order to have pride in them selves. Pride means everything and nothing to people. To some its a way of life, to some its something that matters so little that they would rather skip it and do something else. Those people that really do care about their goals, they are successive in life, because they planned and went ahead with their dreams. Those that through out every single opportunity that they got to even try to succeed on it, or just never bother ed to try are probably in a shelter for the poor. Without goals there are no dreams, without dreams there is no hope, and with out hope there is no life.Ernest Hemingway used very clever ways to compare life and death between one thing.

Formalistic Approach to Hawthornes Young Goodman Brown :: Young Goodman Brown YGB

Formalistic Approach to Young Goodman Brown   The Formalistic Approach throne be found throughout Young Goodman Brown, a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The Formalistic Approach is one of the most frequently employ approaches. It concentrates on the concepts of form, tension, image, and symbol as well as point of view, irony, and paradox. These styles appear throughout the story. Form in the past has meant what is now known as out-of-door form, the way one identifies the work. This type of form is usually associated with poetry. Organic form is important to critics. Emphasis on organicism is not just in literary forms simply in a broader, philosophical context, where the world itself is organic... Point of view is another device in the Formalistic Approach. Point of view, preserves the internal form, the organic type of the work. (Handbook pg.87) Tension, irony, and paradox argon the resolution of opposites. The basic terms -tension, irony, and paradox- are of ten nearly indistinguishable, so closely do they work together.(Handbook pg. 90) A term introduced by Allen Tate, meaning the integral unity that results from the successful resolution of the conflicts of abstraction and concreteness... (Handbook pg. 90)   Ambiguity is also present in Young Goodman Brown. Paradoxical as it may seem, we mention that ambiguity is a formal device in Young Goodman Brown.(Handbook pg.97) One way to see ambiguity in the work, as suggested by the Handbook of Critical Approaches, is to characteristic the relationships of light and dark. The daylight and darkness of the town and the (dark) forest is important.   Young Goodman Brown is a story that is easily understood. The broad use of symbolism jumps out to the reader making the story fun and interesting, while displaying the meaning and ironic twists of events. In Young Goodman Brown, the image almost immediately takes on symbolic qualities. For example, the pink ribbons in the hair of Faith, B rowns wife. This is a reference to and has the same meaning as Hester Prynnes scarlet A. Another good example of ambiguity and symbolism is the fact that Faiths ribbons are pink, an in between color. Red is a symbol of evil or being provocative and white is a symbol of purity and innocence. Like the commixture of light and dark in the tale... the ribbons are neither red nor white. They are somewhere between they are ambiguity objectified.
